Best known as the lead vocalist of British heavy metal band Black Sabbath in the 1970s, and later as a successful solo artist and reality TV star, Ozzy Osbourne is an English singer, songwriter and actor, known to many as the "Godfather of Heavy Metal". Osbourne formed Black Sabbath in the late 1960s and their self-titled debut album is often considered to be the first ever heavy metal album. In total, including his time with Black Sabbath, Osbourne's combined album sales are over 100 million. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Black Sabbath, as well as into the UK Music Hall of Fame as both a solo artist and as a member of the band. At the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards, Osbourne received the Global Icon Award, and in 2015 he received the Ivor Novello Award for Lifetime Achievement from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors.
