Cheap Trick are an American rock band formed in 1974, known for hits such as "Surrender", "I Want You to Want Me", "Dream Police" and "The Flame". Their eponymous first album was released in 1977 to critical acclaim, although it did not receive commercial success straight away. The band has often been referred to in the Japanese press as the "American Beatles". In Japan, all three of Cheap Tricks first albums became gold records, and when they arrived to tour the country for the first time in 1978, they were greeted with a hysteria akin to Beatlemania. The band was launched to international stardom with the release of their 1978 album Cheap Trick at Budokan, which went triple platinum in the United States. The band was ranked No.25 in VH1's list of the 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock and in December 2015, was elected for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
